So you are relocating to Philadelphia for school or work in the near future. Here are some helpful tips in finding an apartment in Philadelphia and perhaps lower your stress level.

!. Start your search at least 4-6 months in advance. Most Philadelphia apartments residents give notice two months prior to moving. So you need to start researching price range, apartment size and neighborhoods to narrow down possibilities well in advance to your moving date.

2. Students, many of the colleges and universities have off-campus resources including apartment listings. Check your school first, then any neighboring campuses. For example, Drexel University is adjacent to University of Pennsylvania, so Drexel students should check the off campus website for University of Pennsyalvania (see Partners links).

3. New Employees should check to see if their employer has a relocation service. There are several relocation services that will assistant in finding an apartment, setting up a mover and any other issues that may arise. Check with your employer, if they don't have an in house relocation service, they may have partnered with a corporate relocation service.

4. Use Social Media in locating an apartment. Use Facebook to locate an apartments and have your "friends" check the listings for feedback. There are also several social network sites such as  Yelp, Local.com and GooglePlaces that list apartments and reviews. YouTube has hundreds of videos of apartments so that you can view interiors, exteriors and neighborhoods.

5. Have several options, with the housing market the way it is, more people are moving into apartments. Vacancies go fast, so your first choice may be unavailable, so be flexible. Also have funds available for first and last months rent, deposits, etc. Often a potential residence looses an opportunity to rent because they have to wait on funds.

If you follow these basic tips, finding an apartment in Philadelphia should be less stressful. Philadelphia is a great place to live and there are many places to explore and enjoy.
